Tandem Health would like to congratulate David Turell, MD, the Clinical Director of Pediatrics at Tandem Health, who was awarded the “Health Care Provider of the Year” Award at the 2023 South Carolina Primary Health Care Association's (SCPHCA) Clinical Network Retreat on July 8, 2023 in Charleston, SC. The SCPHCA is the unifying organization for Community Health Centers (CHCs) in South Carolina. Tandem Health is one of 23 CHCs in South Carolina.

The Health Care Provider of the Year Award recognizes a provider that demonstrates exceptional contributions to the Community Health Center movement through their advocacy, leadership and dedication to the health center mission.

"Dr. David Turell has been serving as the Clinical Director of Pediatrics since May of 2019. As a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Turell has an extensive background working in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and various private practices,” said Allison Shuler, the Vice President of Clinical Operations at Tandem Health. “He served at the Cleveland Clinic as both a pediatrician and as the Education Coordinator for medical and nurse practitioner students. Although it goes without saying, Dr. Turell has been a tremendous clinical resource at Tandem Health on a daily basis for all of our pediatric clinical staff and providers.” continued Shuler.

“In addition to his Tandem Health responsibilities, Dr. Turell also serves as core faculty for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital and Tandem Health Family Medicine Residency program,” continued Shuler. “Dr. Turell is a preceptor for The University of South Carolina Pharmacy residency program and has supervised the development of a Pediatric Asthma Clinic with the Tandem Health Pharmacy Resident for the academic year 2022-2023.”

“Despite all that is listed above (and believe me I could list much more), Dr. Turell’s greatest gift to our health center is not only his dedication and advocacy for our patients, but also his provider and clinical team. He is deeply invested in getting to know each provider and what their unique interests are and works hard to foster that interest to make sure that they obtain goals they set for themselves. Dr. Turell’s passion for our organization and community is infectious,” said Shuler.

Congratulations to Dr. Turell and thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
