Mary Francis Newman, PharmD, a clinical pharmacist at Tandem Health, discusses the benefits of scheduling a Medicare Annual Wellness visit. If you have Medicare, you are eligible for an Annual Wellness visit every year and it is payed for by Medicare. It is no cost to you, but it can be greatly beneficial.
Together with your provider, you will fill out a questionnaire, called a “Health Risk Assessment” Answering these questions can help you and your provider develop a personalized prevention plan to help you stay healthy and get the most out of your visit.
This visit will include:
- A review of your medical and family history
- Developing or updating a list of current providers and prescriptions
- Weight, blood pressure, and other routine measurements
- Detection of any cognitive impairments, risk of falling, or impairments in your ability to perform basic daily activities
- Referrals for any screenings that you may be due for, such as, a breast cancer screening like a mammogram or a colorectal cancer screening like a colonoscopy
- Vaccinations that you may be due
- A screening schedule (like a checklist) for appropriate preventive services
- Personalized health advice
